Releasing the news of the nominations, the BBC said that the International Organization for Kids’ Rights has announced the names of the five children nominated for the International Children Peace Award including Malala Yousafzai, 13, from Pakistan. The nominations, it said, were announced by the South African Nobel laureate, Desmund Tutu a few weeks ago, during a ceremony in Amsterdam, Holland.
“It is a matter of great honour both for me and, of course, for Pakistan that I have become the first ever-Pakistani and Pukhtun girl who has been nominated for such a prestigious award,” said the ecstatic Malala after receiving the news of her nomination for the award.
Malala Yousafzai lives in Mingora Swat that had been turned into a living hell by the Taliban before the military operation in 2009. It was the time when the Taliban had hijacked almost the entire Swat and had banned education. They blew up hundreds of schools among which, girls schools had to bear the brunt. IRC in 2010 made a film “burning paradise” on the impact of terrorism on swat, the film especially Highlighted the destruction of girls education system. Malala was one of the characters who boldly expressed her views on desolation of girls school in swat. She is one of those girls who supports and understands the importances of girl education.
