Muslims live on an average of Rs 32.66/day in India, says govt survey


in a written response to a question in the Lok Sabha.
As per the National Sample Survey (NSS) data shared by Ola, the unemployment rate in the Sikh community in rural areas was 3.5% in 2004-05, which dropped to 2.4% in 2009-10. However, in urban areas, the unemployment rate was 4.6% in 2004-05, which increased to 6.1% in 2009-10.
“Unemployment rates have declined in all religious communities except urban Sikhs,” the minister said.
According to the data, the unemployment rate for Hindus in rural areas was 1.5% in 2004-05, which remained the same in 2009-10. In urban areas, the percentage dipped from 4.4 in 2004-05 to 3.4 in 2009-10.
For rural Muslims, the unemployment rate in 2004-05 was 2.3% and 1.9% in 2009-10. For urban Muslims, it dropped from 4.1% to 3.2% during this period.
The unemployment rate for rural Christians dropped from 4.4% in 2004-05 to 3.9% in 2009-10. It dipped from 8.6% to 2.9% for Christians in urban areas during the same period.
Overall the unemployment rate in rural India was 1.6% in 2004-05 and remained the same in 2009-10. For urban India, the unemployment rate dipped from 4.5% to 3.4%.

In response to another question in the Lok Sabha, minister of state in the labour ministry Kodikunnil Suresh said 1.56 crore women, all of whom may not be necessarily unemployed, were registered with employment exchanges on December 31, 2012.
